Professor Ooops had been busy. He had worked on his time machine, and he was sure that he had fixed the problem. Now the machine would send them back into Bible times and not send the people from the Bible to our time. When MJ and Precious got to the Professor’s lab, he was ready to do an experiment. He put one white mouse inside the booth and turned the dial on the computer to “Noah”. The Professor turned the machine on, and it hummed for about a half minute, then the booth began to shake like a mosquito who had too much caffeine, there was the sound of thunder, and the air was filled with sawdust! After the machine turned off, the Professor opened the door of the booth, and it was empty! The mouse was not there! Precious was upset and asked the Professor what had happened to the mouse. The Professor said that the mouse went back to the time of Noah in the Bible. Precious was mad! She yelled, “Why did you send that poor mouse back in time all by itself? It could die, or it could get eaten by a bigger animal when it gets there!” The Professor said, “Ooops!”
The Professor sat down in his chair to think about what he should do next, but he missed the chair and fell to the floor! His foot knocked over a broom, and the broom bumped into the bookshelf, and a large book fell off the top of the bookshelf and hit the computer that controlled the time machine! Sparks flew everywhere and the Professor said, “Ooops!”
The time machine seemed like it was ok, so the Professor, MJ and Precious went into the booth, closed the door, and pushed the button. The machine hummed for about a half minute, then the booth began to shake like a mosquito who had too much caffeine, there was the sound of thunder, and the air was filled with sawdust! Suddenly the booth seemed very crowded. MJ opened the door and the Professor, MJ, Precious, a white mouse, and an old man fell out of the booth back into the Professor’s lab! The machine had worked backwards again! The Professor said, “Ooops!”
The old man began yelling at them! He said, “What do mean by sending me just one mouse? The animals need to come to me in pairs! There must be two of every kind of animal to go into my ark! Do you not know how to count to two?”
The man was Noah, and he was collecting pairs of animals to go into the ark. Precious calmed everyone down and introduced the Professor and MJ to Noah. She then asked Noah to tell them his story.
Noah told them how all the people in the world had become evil except for his family. God had been patient long enough, and He was going to bring judgment on the sin! God was going to send a worldwide flood and all living things on the earth were going to die except Noah, his family, and two of every kind of animal. God gave instructions to Noah to build a huge boat, called and ark, to carry his family and the animals safely through the flood. Noah had obeyed God, and his family had helped him to build the ark. Now the animals were coming to Noah in pairs, there were two of each kind of animals. The ark was big enough to hold all of them and all the food they would need to survive a year on the boat.
In the Bible in Genesis 6:17-22 God says:
“Look! I am about to cover the earth with a flood that will destroy every living thing that breathes. Everything on earth will die. But I will confirm my covenant (promise) with you. So enter the boat – you and your wife and your sons and their wives. Bring a pair of every kind of animal – a male and a female – in the boat with you to keep them alive during the flood. Pairs of every kind of bird, and every kind of animal, and every kind of small animal that scurries along the ground, will come to you to be kept alive. And be sure to take on board enough food for your family and for all the animals.” So Noah did everything exactly as God had commanded him.
Noah knew that God had made a promise to Eve, that one of her descendants would be a very special person, He would be both God and human. Now Noah knew that all future humans would be descended from him, including the promised Savior!
God always provides a way to save people that believe in Him and follow Him. In Noah’s time God provided an ark to save Noah’s family and the animals from physical death in the flood. God provided His Son Jesus to save people from spiritual death. But, just like in Noah’s time, people need to take action to be saved. In Noah’s time they had to believe God’s Word, leave their wicked ways, and enter the ark. To get to our sins forgiven and get to heaven after this life, each person needs to believe that Jesus is the Son of God who died to pay for our sins then rose from the dead. Each of us needs to decide that we want to leave our life of sin and live for God, then pray and ask God to forgive our sins and come and live into our life.
